Book that I want....

The 400 page book is being released October 4, 2011. $100 (Amazon $63).
Product Description
"Carine, and her vision of French Vogue, embodies all that the world likes to think of as Parisian style: a sense of chic that's impeccable and sometimes idiosyncratic and which forever lives on a moonlit street as seen through the lens of Helmut Newton."--Anna Wintour. Karl Lagerfeld once said that if you close your eyes and imagine the ideal French woman, it would be Carine Roitfeld. She is a fashion visionary and a muse. Since the start of her career in the early 1990s, through her collaborations with the legendary photographer Mario Testino, Roitfeld has been credited with launching Tom Ford's career at Gucci, as well as turning French Vogue into one of the industry's most worshipped magazines.
This elegant volume is a visual history of Roitfeld's fearless career. A daring instigator, she is known for pushing the limits with her subversive styling ideas. Featuring a selection of 250 magazine tear sheets and covers from pivotal editorial shoots and advertising campaigns, as well as intimate visual ephemera, this book gives an inside view into Roitfeld's creative thought process and sensibility. A must-have for those interested in cutting-edge fashion and femininity, this book will empower women to follow Roitfeld's lead and take risks with their personal style.

L’Amour Fou...............
I cannot describe how excited i am about L’Amour Fou, documentary dedicated to the life and art collection of Yves Saint Laurent. Must watch the trailer:
I really like what Pierre Thoretton, the director, said about YSL "we all have certain assumptions of people who succeed in business -- that they are strong, callous, violent event. But Yves Saint Laurent was none of those things. He was fragile and shy and his success proves that this idea that you must be a callous individual in order to get ahead is just “silliness.”
"The film is structured around the sale of Yves Saint Laurent’s massive art collection. But in reality, it’s about so much more. Through a variety of interviews with people who had been close to Yves Saint Laurent, primarily his long-time life and business partner, Pierre BergĂ©, we learn about the man behind the icon. The film is about life and love with all its ups and downs, about growing up and growing older, about losing someone we love, about savoring the time spent together and making sense of it all."

Bill Cunningham ... must watch the documentary...

Bill Cunningham New York Trailer from Gavin McWait on Vimeo.
Bill Cunningham has been photographing street style since 1978. He is the main style photographer for the New York Ttimes and is, in fact, a legend. He got his big break when he luckily snapped a shot of Greta Garbo on the street, showed it to her, she loved it and thus started a new means of distributing fashion photography. Here is a scan of the image that started it all.
This week a documentary will be released about Bill entitled, “Bill Cunningham New York” - all about his life as a street style photographer (trailer above - so stoked).
“The main thing I love about street photography is that you find the answers you don’t see at the fashion shows. This was something I realized early on: if you just cover the designers in the shows, that’s only one facet. You also need the street and the evening hours. if you cover the three things, you have the full picture of what people are wearing.” - Bill Cunningham

Interview with Emmanuelle Alt, The New Editor of Vogue Paris

...she has agreed to meet up and talk (just a little, not too much, she doesn’t want to give everything away) about what she plans to do with the—her—magazine. Her first issue is April.
On How She Sees Vogue Paris—For Now“I want to keep the quality, the photographers we work with—David [Sims], Mert and Marcus, Mario [Testino], and Bruce Weber. I don’t think there should be radical changes. The magazine should still be chic and sophisticated. It’s a bit like buying an apartment: Before you move in, you have all these plans of what you are going to do, but then you get there, and you realize it is better to spend time living in it, and transforming it over time. I’d like there to be more beauty trends; there was so much of that in Vogue back in the eighties. And how people are living; there are so many interesting, cool people here, and they should be in the magazine. More French girls, more French lifestyle. And I am going to keep shooting for the magazine—hopefully a story every issue. I do project myself in my pictures, even if I would never wear what I shoot. Actually, most of the time I definitely wouldn’t. I always want a relationship with reality: nothing too sexy, or provocative, or fashion victim. Even if I love to dream, I want the magazine to feature a girl who looks like she belongs in real life. We are French—we can show smoking, nudity. We have no boundaries, and it can be good to have them."
On Celebrity Covers“We don’t have a systematic point of view on it. But here in France we are back in a much more glamorous time. French actresses were respected, but not so evidently in the fashion world. Now we have Marion Cotillard, Charlotte Gainsbourg. I’d be very happy to put an actress on the cover if she is the right girl.”
On the Need for New Designers in Paris“No one has appeared, and you cross your fingers that someone will come through. It’s good that some people—like Bouchra Jarrar—are using the haute couture to get attention for themselves. You can’t create new talent just like that. America feels like it has become the place for young designers.”
On Her Own Style“I like vintage. Balmain. Givenchy. Chanel. I love jeans. I wear a lot of jeans. I have that French-girl thing of always wanting to wear a cashmere sweater with a pair of jeans. Mine are J Brand, Acne—and I like Topshop. I don’t want them to be “designed.” Jeans should be jeans. I rarely wear skirts. My daughter is just the same. I’ll try to convince her to wear a skirt, or a dress, and she’ll look at me say, ‘Why? You don’t.’ ”

Love is in the air at Galeries Lafayette...
On my first visit to Paris going to Galleries Lafayette was an enchanting moment for me. It is absolutely gorgeous building with a fairytale like glass dome ceiling and amazing shopping experience. Here in Dubai we are super lucky to have our own Galleries Lafayette and let me confess that I fell in love with their idea of putting together "So... in love" week to celebrate the Valentine's Day from February 7 until February 14. Once you read the reasons listed below I am sure you will be in love as well :)
Showcasing the best of its latest divine collections probably Valentine Inspired with lots of red to find the perfect gift for each other.
An in-store heart matching Game to get more discounts on top of the Dubai Shopping Festival discounts, and who doesn’t love games and discounts??? ;) Upon entrance, every customer will be given one half of a broken heart, with the other half residing somewhere in the store for them to find.
And my favorite part is that lovers can also display their affections by visiting Galleries Lafayette's wall of love, a wall displaying heartfelt messages from one to another, along with a photographer to capture beautiful moments of happy couples.
What more can you ask for, right?

The Video of Tom Ford’s Fashion Show Is Now Online
It is still impossible to get a good look at any of the clothes. Need more... BUT i absolutly love below article form vogue.com
"Tom Ford’s comeback to womenswear after six years——is fashion meganews, not that he’s been sharing it with just anyone. The newly elusive former idol and inciter of the sexed-up Gucci-YSL nineties is doing things differently this time. He objects to the way the Internet eats up fashion images before the clothes can be bought. He despises sections of the press. Private and formal are terms he favors now.
“I do not understand everyone’s need to see everything online the day after a show,” he says. “I don’t think it ultimately serves the customer, which is the whole point of my business—not to serve journalists or the fashion system. To put something out that’s going to be in a store in six months, and to see it on a starlet, ranked in US magazine next week? My customer doesn’t want to wear the same thing she saw on a starlet!”So true. But the celebrity red-carpet fashion parade? Dresses flown fresh from runways to awards ceremonies? The whole degenerated step-and-repeat of it all? Mr. Ford, you started it. “Now I’m taking it back!” He relents just a little: “I’ll wait to see who’s nominated for the Oscars. Then I will offer to dress one person.”
What he wants to do now sounds almost like a volte-face from his brash, hot, logoed Gucci heyday. “It’s about individuality. Real clothes, real women. For a fashionable woman aged 25 to 75. That’s why I literally put many of my own muses in the show. I hear them say, ‘God, I can’t find that anywhere!’ ”
“I want this to be somewhere a woman knows she can go when she wants a great jacket—not a fake expensive jacket, something that has intrinsic value. I don’t think fashion has to change every five minutes. I’d like these to be clothes you can wear for a long time—ten, 20 years; pass on to your daughter. Why buy vintage when you can open your own closet!”

Carine Roitfeld leaves Vogue Paris

Carine Roitfeld would be leaving Vogue Paris to work on "personal projects" ... I am surprised and like many others I have so many questions... Why is she leaving?... What she will be doing?... Who will replace her? Is that person really good enough to replace her? ... Well i am sure she is moving to something fantastic but whoever will replace her will have REAL TOUGH time...
For me she represents modern class and elegance, a real character of Vogue Paris...

Alice in Wonderland - March 2010

Cant wait to see Alice in Wonderland directed by Tim Burton. Mia Wasikowska will play the role of Alice, alongside Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as The White Queen. The Alice in Wonderland story is a classic and has been told many times but I have a feeling that Burton will work his magic and we’ll see something we’ve never seen before.

"The September Issue" film by R.J.Cutler
"Vogue" is one of the things in life that makes me happy, that I really enjoy with a cup of tea every Friday morning (actually afternoon since I usually wake up late on fridays). I read it religiously every month and I think I managed to make quite a good collection of Vogue for the past couple of years. "The September Issue" is a film that tells the story of Vogue's editor in chief Anna Wintour and her team of editors one of which is Grace Coddington, creating the September Issue and ruling the fashion world. So you can imagine my excitement and anticipation for this movie. I did read somewhere in the internet that it will be in "Virgin" Dubai in October Month. I have tried to call the store, after my 1000 unanswered calls they finally answered and they dont have it in the system meaning they haven't received it yet or something. (I love the store and the service in the Virgin but they gotta do something with customer care or over the phone service, it is impossible to reach them, they never answer, your only choice is to visit the store if you wanna find out about something, frustrating!). I have no choice but to wait until it arrives in Dubai! :(
Praises:
"The film captures the unique passion & delicate relationships that make each page of "Vogue" a reality." by Women's Wear Daily
"This is the real "Devil Wears Prada" by Vanit Fair.
"A hurricane of fabulousness!" by New York Magazine
